Between the sea and the mountains is a Francophone oasis in the Campbell River region. École Mer-et-montagne is a public school that inaugurated its homogeneous language school in September 2005. The school offers a complete program of instruction in French from kindergarten through grade 12. High school courses are provided at Carihi Secondary School.
